Do the double cleanse with DHC

Japan’s DHC might have been among the first to bring cleansing oils to the US market. How many of you have been introduced to DHC’s Deep Cleansing Oil through sample packets glued into its catalogues? I got hooked when I used a DCO sample and saw what a great job it did on dissolving eye makeup.

It’s funny that DHC has been slow to get on the bandwagon for double cleansing, even though it’s offered double cleansing for years. DHC usually pairs the DCO with one of its clear soaps, but I don’t care how mild a soap is, it still leaves a film. That’s why I prefer DHC Face Wash Powder.

I first apply the DCO to my face and then rinse my face with water. I then shake a little Face Wash Powder into my hand, build lather, apply the lather to my face, and then rinse my face with water. I haven’t let go of the idea that lather means that the product is working. If there are any mascara stains left, I’ll then saturate a cotton pad with dual-phase eye makeup remover (I use CVS’s knockoff of Neutrogena’s dual phase eye makeup remover) or micellar water (I currently use Vichy) and remove the stains.

Tatcha’s washing powder is grittier than DHC Face Wash Powder, takes more time to dissolve, and produces little lather. I also have a washing powder from Yojiya, a brand from Japan, but I’ve had it for so many years that it might have lost its efficacy.

My complaint about purchasing DCO and the Face Wash Powder from DHC’s website is that the threshold for free shipping is very high – 85 US dollars. I’m grateful to Marcia at Beauty Info Zone (see also 6 #beauty sites to follow), who told me about dermstore.com, which offers free shipping, no minimum. Dermstore.com also includes free samples with orders: when I purchased the Face Wash Powder, dermstore.com threw in a TSA-friendly mini-bottle of DHC Cleansing Oil (no packets here!). If you join Ebates, you can get 4% cash back on your purchase from dermstore.com.

While I purchased DHC Face Wash Powder, I have received several bottles of DHC Cleansing Oil from DHC in-house PR.
