About me

Well, what do you know?  My “About” page received one like, and I didn’t have any content! So, it’s time to tell you a little about myself.

I’m a baby boomer.  I’m five months Caroline Kennedy’s junior and four months Madonna’s senior.  Go figure.  I have a twisted, convoluted, tortuous history in my relationship with beauty and cosmetics.

As a kid, I loved 16 magazine. I loved watching the Yardley TV commercials featuring Jean Shrimpton, especially the one in which she emerges from the phone booth in one mod outfit after the other. “I’m a London girl, and there’s this thing about my identity.” I remember drawing Yardley Slickers and writing ad copy on 3″ x 5″ index cards. In fact, Yardley Slicker on a keychain was my first cosmetic.

Fast forward to my lonely teen years.  I became studious and nerdy.  Loving cosmetics was incompatible with studiousness and nerdiness, or so I believed, and I eschewed cosmetics.  My Mom nagged me about wearing lipstick, but I refused.

In college, I became friends with a world-weary and jaded girl (only 17!).  She was a sophisticate from the East Coast, and I was a Midwestern naif.  I still am.  Leslie introduced me to Lancôme.  With my mother’s blessing, I went to SFA (fancy!), where the salesgirl selected two blushes for me.  After all these years, I still remember what shades they were: Raspberry and Cedar Rose.

After an interim of several years, I got interested in cosmetics again, and my love, addiction, and obsession haven’t let up.

In 2001, I started a web page that was essentially a list of links to various beauty web sites.  In 2004, I started a blog at thestylepage.blogspot.com.

I had heard so much about WordPress being a superior blogging platform to Blogger that I started a blog here in January 2013.  I find the web site administration a lot friendlier and opportunities to discover and be discovered so much better!  However, one of the things that sucks about WordPress is that it prohibits scripts.  Nonetheless, I’m happy to join the WordPress community.  One of these years I’ll get my own domain! 🙂

I search the world for beauty, and enjoy sharing my discoveries with you.  I look forward to your comments and feedback!
